ABSTRACT

This paper is presented to showcase series of alternative energy systems in our environment vis-à-vis the sources, uses and challenges. It is a fact that most of the world’s energy resources are produced used by buildings and construction industry which as a result, constitute problems of global warming, pollution, depletion of the ozone layer, waste issues, and climate changes, etc. To save our planet of these problems is going back to the basis; a technology in green architecture to achieve an alternative and sustainable energy in buildings. A review of the characteristics of the various alternative energy technologies in buildings suggests modifications in architectural planning and design in such areas as site planning/landscaping floor planning, environmental control systems, construction materials and methods. The eye opening environmental factors and determinants in this paper will make us understand the need for the adoption of various alternative energy systems with appropriate such available method of energy abound. In conclusion, a detailed study with relevant analysis showed an acceptable positive result. It was then recommended among others that stake holders at all levels, should enforce better solutions to energy crisis and more research investigations could be made possible by making positive pilot schemes in energy a reality.

Abstract

The effect of environmental perturbation on the interaction between phytoplankton species is a challenging marine ecology problem that requires a mathematical reasoning to tackle this problem. We have used the technique of a numerical simulation in particular to investigate the impact of environmentally driven perturbation in terms of the random noise intensities of 0.1 and 0.4. Our present results clearly show that irrespective of the environmental perturbation that produces random noise, we have obtained a dominant stable co-existence steady-state solution. The twenty (20) repeated numerical simulation results that we have obtained reinforce this powerful contribution. The results which we have obtained have not been seen elsewhere; these are presented and discussed in this study.

ABSTRACT

The use of ICT is very relevant in enhancing National Security and Development.  ICT tools such as computer security is the collective processes and mechanism by which sensitive and valuable information/ services to lives are protected from unauthorized publication, tampering or collapse by unauthorized activities of untrustworthy individuals. The paper discusses security in computing using four (4) approaches, fraud and computer security measures to unveil the potentials that are available to prevent unnecessary access to confidential documents, loss of computer files in sub-sahara African countries. Environmental threats, such as earthquakes, floods, lighting, power fluctuations, humidity, dust, varying temperatures and fire, can also cause damage to computer files and can also cause damage to other property and lives. The paper concluded that there is the need to set requirements on the secrecy, confidentiality of information and layout of structural requirements for powerful security technique were featured. Recommendations were made on compulsory installation of updatable antivirus software, critical data should be hacked on secondary storage media and on the net for various tiers of governments to appraise on the usage of biometric and forensic approach towards unveiling the potentials in Nigeria and other sub-sahara African countries.

Abstract

The present economic situation in Nigeria poses serious threats and challenges to both government and well meaning citizens. These social-economic problems call for different strategies and actions for it to be ameliorated. The objectives of this paper are to emphasize the need and importance of entrepreneurship education, which will serve as a panacea to some social economic problems. It was discovered that the current educational system is deficient in providing the necessary impetus for economic development. It also founds out that same problems keep escalating despite various efforts by the government to review policies and programmes in the past. A good aspect of the paper is providing entrepreneurship education framework as an explanation of what and who it should be rather than what it is. It also challenges policy makers on the need to refocus their policies in problem solving rather than maintaining the status quo. This research adopts the desk research method to review relevant literature on Educational system.

 ABSTRACT

A crucial problem facing educational development planning in Nigeria is not paucity of data, but accurate analysis of the unlimited data needed to assess the efficiency and effectiveness of our educational system to make realistic and implementable projections for effective academic planning for higher education at national or state level. Analysis on the growth of higher education in Nigeria, emergence of private institution in Nigeria, tertiary students enrolment, tertiary graduate out-put, tertiary academic staff, the funding of higher education, Nigerian higher education participation rate within world economies, are essential building blocks. Knowing their prospective trends is a prerequisite to forecasting their perspective levels. This paper analyses trends in the above name variables in higher education in Nigeria since 1948, with a suggestions for improvement and increasing the growth of these sector in the country as background. The paper recommends consolidation of existing facilities and programmes instead of further proliferation of higher education systems. To achieve these laudable objectives and to appreciate the current educational development and plan better for the future requires studying of the past. This study therefore anchors this relevance in our tertiary institutions. History is not mere story telling. It is also not a mere fabrication. History is an account of what actually happened in the past which has a link to what is happening at present and can help in planning or projecting for the future. In other words, history is about yesterday, today and tomorrow. We study important development in human existence in the past for the development of today. This paper, therefore, focuses on the historic episodes to development of higher education issues in Nigeria, its prospects and in the recognition given to higher education in Nigeria, as the country gives much credence to higher education as the means for social and economic mobility, social transformation, and as a major platform for higher level workforce development–managerial, scientific and technological.

POPULATION CENSUS AND POLITICS IN NIGERIA

*ABBAS  M. ADAM & **YAKUBU DAN

* Dept. of Geography, Federal University Kashere, Gombe State ** Dept. of Geography, Gombe State University ,  Gombe State

Abstract

Population constitutes a vital component of the resources base and development potentials of any nation. The spatial pattern of development in Nigeria to a large extent has been determined by the existing pattern of population distribution. The population factor has played a decisive role in many government policies and actions such as revenue allocation among states, the distribution of infrastructural facilities and the subdivision of the country into units. Sadly, more often than not population data sources are characterised by, various forms of errors, inaccuracies and inaccessibility therefore cannot be relied upon for effective planning. The data for the paper was generated from results of past population censuses, population archives and petitions submitted by communities contesting the figures. The finding shows that population data sources generally include censuses, Post enumeration surveys, vital registrations of births, deaths and migrations, sample surveys etc. In most cases it is only the census that is up to date and having wider coverage which is also characterised by inaccuracies, petitions and counter petitions and non enumeration of a lot of areas during the exercise. It is therefore necessary that for any development planning to be achieved population data for that region should be taken into consideration.

THE NIGERIAN PARADOX IN A CONTEMPORARY PERSPECTIVE: THE BANE OF UNVEILING AFRICAN POTENTIALS IN THE NEW MILLENNIUM

VICTOR OGHENEOCHUKO JEKO

Department of Philosophy, Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka

ABSTRACT

The objective of this paper is to examine the implications of good governance vis-a-vis the paradoxes of Nigeria’s democratic experience and the way forward. The problems of Nigeria’s democratic experience are multifaceted and it has to be addressed critically. This involves a critical examination of the myriad of problems such as economic problem, religious bigotry, ethnic chauvinism, cultural problem, and political instability, bribery and corruption in the Nigerian society. These multidimensional issues serve as an impediment to sustainable development and the stability of the Nigerian democratic experience. The paper shall analyze the notions of political, economic, cultural, religious, ethnic and social change and the way these issues can mar the dynamic process relative to the Nigerian democratic condition and how they can be amenable to Nigeria’s democratic experience or otherwise. This paper appreciates and appropriate the deep logical insight offered by philosophy into the problems of the Nigeria’s democratic setting and the assault on Nigeria by her political leaders which include among other things the phenomena of Nigeria’s paradoxical democratic problem of corruption, bribery, ignorance, lack of political ideology and economic stabilization by Nigeria’s presidents, legislatures and other stakeholders of economic and political areas.
