Abstract
In nearly every country around the world that has large ,medium, and even small organisations there exists a tendency for such organisations going international in order to have a percentage of revenue from overseas markets which entails managing a multicultural workforce in a globalised world across pre-existing boundaries of time, space and nation states through processes of movement of finance, investment, knowledge, skills and people, forging cross cultural interactions through exchange of employees to new countries, alliance into new practices of work interactions with overseas allies or as a consequence of an upsurge in relocation of labour. This study will evaluate the management challenges to be faced on a project that combines a multicultural workforce that are likely to differ in office administration, control style, group effort, leadership styles and motivation with an emphasis on Nigeria and the United Kingdom using Hofstede, Lewis. Trompanners and GLOBE cultural theories. The findings of the study reveal a huge difference in power distance relationships, individualism/Collectivism index as well as long and short term orientation index. With a recommendation that managers of tourism and hospitality organisations across national borders be familiar with aspects of organisational life, structures, governance styles, motivation patterns,

He elucidates the real reason(s) for the amalgamation in spite of the diverse cultural settings of the North and South of Nigeria. The study adopts and eclectic theoretic approach that encompasses sociological and Post colonial theories to explicate the text.
GOOD GOVERNANCE: PANACEA FOR REDUCING POVERTY AND HUNGER IN NIGERIA
NWACHUKWU EMMANUEL UCHE
Social Governance and Policy Research Department, Nigerian Institute of Social and Economic Research (NISER) Ibadan, Nigeria
Abstract
Poverty and hunger remain pervasive in Nigeria due to the absence of good governance. Over the years as observed, there has been consistent mismanagement of resources leading to poverty and hunger in Nigeria. Reducing poverty and hunger in Nigeria cannot unfold by accident, rather through conscious and concerted efforts geared towards achieving this goal. Although, poverty and hunger is a universal phenomenon that affect the socio-economic and political wellbeing of the citizens’ be it in developed or developing countries. Accordingly, statistics shows that poverty and hunger is more prevalent in the developing countries which Nigeria is among. There is therefore, an urgent need for elected government officials to institute good governance at all levels to ensure citizens are lifted out of poverty and hunger. This paper therefore, examines good governance as a panacea for mitigating hunger and poverty in Nigeria. The data used were secondary sources on good governance, poverty and hunger reduction in Nigeria. The findings reveal that poor governance, corruption, misplaced allocation of resources, management and leadership failure were responsible for poverty and hunger in Nigeria. The paper concludes that poverty and hunger will persist if the problems militating against good governance in Nigeria are not addressed. Recommendations were made based on the finding.

GLOBALISATION AND COMMUNICATION: CULTURAL/MEDIA IMPERIALISM IN THE CHANGING GLOBAL MEDIA LANDSCAPE

Department of Mass Communication, Federal Polytechnic, Bauchi.
Abstract
Three major schools of thought emerge from the study of contemporary globalization. They are represented by what scholars call the ‘Globalists’, the ‘Skeptics’ and the ‘Transformationalists.’ This paper adopts the conceptual approach by taking a theoretical look at the role of media and communications in the globalisation process and debate. It is the position of this paper that, while globalisation occurs in the economic, political, social, technological perspectives, it is cultural globalisation that occurs through the media; this however does not negate the indispensable role communication plays in all forms of globalisation. Media/cultural imperialism thesis has been challenged by globalisation as a result of the spread of new media technologies. Online social networks are challenging traditional notions of basic concepts like audience, society and even culture occasioned by new technologies’ potentials in breaking time and space. The paper concludes that as media and communication undergo transformations in the era of globalisation, and considering the prime place of communication in all forms of globaisation, scholars in other fields need to consider media and communications as integral to the analysis of globalisation.
